MUNDOTA I
February 19-21, 2027
Letter from the Secretary-General of MUNDOTA I
Greetings Delegates!
On behalf of our Secretariat, staff, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we are thrilled to introduce you to MUNDOTA I, Wisconsin’s first collegiate Model United Nations conference. My name is Wade Lindmark, and it is my great honor to serve as your inaugural Secretary-General.
A little about myself — I am a fifth-generation Wisconsinite, a UW-Madison senior, and have previously served as a WiscoMUN Vice President and WHSMUN Under-Secretary-General. But where are my manners? Allow me to extend a hearty Wisconsin welcome to you! This conference not only takes its name from Madison’s transcendent Lake Mendota, on whose shores it will be hosted, but also seeks to embody a warm, enjoyable, and intellectual atmosphere that echoes the hard-working and celebratory Wisconsinite lifestyle.
Both the skill of our staff and the strength of our committees will seek to exemplify the state we call home. Each of our committees has been built by directors who have poured real care into crafting substantive, challenging, and rewarding debate, and we are thrilled to see the discussions you will hold, the solutions you will craft, and the stories you will tell. It is likewise our goal to provide a taste of this beautiful city through our social events.
Whether MUNDOTA is your first taste of collegiate Model UN or one conference of many, we nonetheless invite you to build, debate, and negotiate with us in February. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to me at mundotasecgen@gmail.com.
On Wisconsin!
Wade E. Lindmark
Secretary-General of MUNDOTA 2027, The First Session
Advancing Diplomacy in the Heart of the Wisconsin Idea
One of the longest and deepest traditions surrounding the University of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Idea signifies a general principle: that education should influence people’s lives beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
Generations of Wisconsin alumni have pursued this goal, and it still shapes the way we learn, lead, and serve today. We can think of no principle more fitting for a Model United Nations conference, one which MUNDOTA is founded upon.
Our world grows more connected by the day. Economies, ecosystems, technologies, and the challenges that come with them no longer respect borders. Yet being connected is not the same as being in conversation, and too often, an increasingly globalized world is not often genuinely listening to one another. Diplomacy exists for that reason, to close the gap between different people. It is the discipline of sitting across from someone whose interests differ from your own and finding, through patience and good faith, your shared common ground.
Diplomacy is a skill, and skills are kept sharp through practice. Building MUNDOTA is a choice we’ve made to continue advancing diplomacy, through enjoyable and engaging debate.
We can’t wait to see you in Madison!
